Are you protecting your mining business from the threat of extreme weather?

Miningzone, by DTN APAC, is the only weather tracking and alerting solution purpose-built for the resources sector.

As the climate shifts into unchartered territory, weather events could affect your mine with increasing force.

Miningzone is the proven and trusted turnkey solution –deployed at over 400 mines globally – offering you tailored forecasting and alerting systems to protect your valuable staff and assets.

Our integrated services are intuitive and user-friendly, providing you with the specific weather and blast data needed to gain a complete environmental picture.

You will have access to our lightning and severe weather tracking and alerts, EPA-approved blast dispersion modelling, thunderstorm tracking and high precision and site-specific forecasting, along with comprehensive reporting capacity.

Precise, market-leading data is delivered via multiple platforms including Weatherguard – our easy-to-use app – and can be fully integrated into your operational control or SCADA systems.

The tailored solution to drive your decisions.

Customise your mining weather solutions

You can customise your Miningzone interface with over 30 parameters, so that you, your site and operations teams have immediate access to the specific resources needed, from any device.

Access Real-Time Forecasts

Opticast™ nowcasting and 14-day outlook enables you to confidently manage critical activity windows, maximizing operation time.

Avoid Unnecessary Shutdowns

Automated alerts of lightning strikes within proximity thresholds allow your site and operation personnel to take decisive action when required.

Foresee Blast Outcomes

Our EPA-approved dispersion modelling gives a clear picture of blast outcomes out to 14 days to inform your planning.

Blast Dispersion Modelling

Working with you, always innovating

Ensure your key work schedules are not impacted by severe weather events.

Opticast’s rapid update forecasting delivers high-precision weather insight in real-time and out to 7-14 days, supporting the efficiency of your mining operations. This enables your teams to identify optimal weather windows for critical project or shutdown campaigns.

Blast Dispersion Modelling gives you a scientific, visual understanding of blast events, expected trajectory and pollutant concentrations, allowing you to make informed decisions on when to blast.

Total Lightning Network and Stormtracker systems provide unparalleled location accuracy. Detecting both intra-cloud (IC) and cloud-to-ground (CG) strikes, alerts are issued based on real-time detection within defined thresholds. This allows operation managers to make quick, confident weather risk decisions and inform staff of procedural action.

Optimise your decision making with precise, real-time data, and mitigate serious risk and cost.

Case study

Australian gold mine discovers the cost benefits of Miningzone alerts.

A major Australian gold mine recently trialled and upgraded to the extensive resources offered by DTN APAC.

The gold mine was previously using a single site lightning sensor but, following an incident that severely impacted operations, they questioned its reliability and accuracy.

The business chose to trial Total Lightning Network in tandem with their existing sensor to compare the response.

As thunderstorms moved through the area, their original single site sensor triggered several “red alerts” and put the mine into a 2-hour shutdown.

By contrast our network, which accurately detects adverse weather and lightning strike range, showed that the lightning was greater than 30km away and not within the “red alert” zone.

Post-event analysis proved that the single site sensor had been too sensitive, costing time and money. DTN APAC’s alerts were accurate and had the site been actively incorporating the Total Lightning Network for their operations that day, the two hours of mining shutdown would have been avoided.

How DTN APAC’s inversion and blast dispersion forecasting helps the mining industry

Weather such as low cloud, fog, gusty winds, dispersion of dust, smoke and other pollutants, and blast sound shockwaves can all be the result of inversions and have significant impacts on safe and responsible mining operations. What is a temperature inversion? In the troposphere, the atmosphere layer closest to the ground and where most of […]

First western Pacific tropical storm to impact southern China

Gusty winds and heavy rain are impacting parts of Vietnam and southern China as the first tropical storm of the season, named Wutip, closes in on Hainan Island. Drought relief as winter rain soaks parts of southern Australia’s agricultural industries

It didn’t break the drought, but a decent drop of rain over the long weekend was a welcome change for parched areas of Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania. A low pressure complex and an associated series of cold fronts delivered multiple rounds of rain and snow across southern and southeastern Australia over the King’s Birthday […]
